Ontario Teachers’ Announces CIO Appointments

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (Ontario Teachers’) has made significant executive appointments, designating two seasoned leaders in its Investments division as Chief Investment Officers (CIOs) with immediate effect. Stephen McLennan has been named Chief Investment Officer, Asset Allocation, where he will oversee the strategic composition of Ontario Teachers' overall asset mix. His responsibilities include driving total fund performance, managing portfolio risks, and ensuring robust governance and investment practices. McLennan, who assumed the role of Acting Head of Investments in September 2023, joined Ontario Teachers' in 2003 and has advanced through various roles, most recently leading the Total Fund Management department. He holds advanced degrees, including a Master of Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.

In parallel, Gillian Brown has been appointed Chief Investment Officer, Public & Private Investments. In her new capacity, Brown will take charge of executing and managing investments across public and private markets, overseeing various departments such as Equities, Infrastructure & Natural Resources, Teachers’ Venture Growth, Capital Markets, and Real Estate. With a tenure at Ontario Teachers' dating back to 1995, Brown has steadily ascended the ranks, most recently serving as the head of the Capital Markets department since 2018. Her role involved overseeing cross-asset liquid total fund exposures and active risk management in credit and absolute return asset classes. Brown holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University and is a board member of Canada Guaranty, a portfolio company in Ontario Teachers’ Private Capital.

These appointments underscore Ontario Teachers’ commitment to strategic leadership and expertise in navigating diverse investment portfolios, contributing to the fund's ongoing success in managing its substantial assets.
