Video Interview: Javier Alberti Soto of the Denver Foundation: How to Apply DEI to a Foundation’s Fabric

During this video interview, Christine Giordano, head of institutional content and news at Markets Group/Institutional Investor, will talk with Javier Alberti Soto, the president and CEO of the Denver Foundation, on the steps he has taken to put a new diversity, equity and inclusion initiative (DEI)  into action. Soto has a goal of applying it to everything the organization does, from policy, to investments, to grantmaking.  The Foundation will also be applying a racial equity lens to the foundation’s processes, and investing in local communities of color.

Soto has been able to develop plans that avoid partisan traps in the past, having led work using public private partnerships on climate change through the Miami Foundation from 2009 through 2019. At the Denver Foundation, he will continue ESG initiatives, and is currently creating bespoke measurements for ESG. He holds a BA in history and political science from Florida State University and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. He is the former chair of the Council on Foundations, and was named a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute in 2013.

Javier Alberti Soto's investment team member Ben Perry was an esteemed panelist at Markets Group’s 10th Annual Mountain States’ Institutional Forum in Denver, Colorado on March 29.
