The $1.6B University of Miami has begun its search for a new chief investment officer and treasurer, following the departure of Charmel Maynard.
Maynard joined the endowment as an assistant treasurer in 2016 and was appointed associate vice-president, CIO and treasurer in 2017. He left the university in December to join General Catalyst as an investor.
Asaf Zentler is currently serving as interim CIO and treasurer. Prior to his interim appointment, Zentler served as the university’s associate vice-president, deputy CIO and assistant treasurer.
The CIO will work as an adviser to the vice-president and chief financial officer, along with the board of trustees. The successful candidate will be responsible for the financial plans, policies, accounting practices for the university’s endowment, working capital and pension assets, along with employee pension benefits.
Additionally, the CIO will head the search, evaluation, selection, and termination of external managers for all investment portfolios, as well as develop recommendations for the endowments and develop funding and liquidity plans.
