The 5th Annual West Institutional Real Estate Investor Forum is a local peer-to-peer educational meeting exclusively for the institutional and HNW wealth management community with a specific focus on allocations to real estate.

The forum brings together investors, funds, and advisers for a one-day meeting to discuss sectors, due diligence, and real estate investment opportunities in the US and around the world.

The investor-focused event provides a due diligence forum for US and international pension funds, foundations, endowments, fund of funds, family offices, wealth managers, consultants, and sovereign wealth funds interested in direct research on real estate opportunities.


Melissa Reagen, Head of Research, Americas, Nuveen Real Estate

With 12 years of experience, Melissa leads a team of research and strategy professionals focused on the U.S. direct real estate market. Collaborating closely with Nuveen Real Estate’s Global Head of Research, Melissa’s deep U.S. expertise contributes to our market-leading research capabilities, which inform all investment decisions. Melissa is a member of the Americas Investment Committee, as well as the Global R&D team, which identifies global, regional and structural trends, ensuring our research feeds into every stage of the investment process as well as product development.

Prior to joining Nuveen Real Estate in 2017, Melissa was the Head of Real Estate and Agricultural Research for MetLife Investment Management where she focused on developing and building out the firm’s real estate and agricultural research capabilities. Previously, she was with Aberdeen Asset Management where she created its Americas research platform.

Melissa graduated with a B.A. in Economics from The University of Chicago and an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She serves as Co-Chair of the NCREIF research committee, and is a member of the PREA Research Affinity Group as well as the ICSC North American research task force, and is active in NAREIM and the National Multifamily Housing Council.

Dean Allara, Vice Chairman, Bridge Investment Group

Dean Allara serves as Vice Chairman of Bridge Investment Group and head of the Capital Markets Group. He has experience in the real estate investment process including analyzing, raising capital, acquiring, financing, developing, managing, improving and selling properties beginning in 1986. Mr. Allara is responsible for capital raising, investment analysis, and investor relations. Allara is directly responsible for investing in over $4 billion in real estate assets. Property types include multi-family and single family residential, commercial, seniors housing, resort golf properties, hotel, and retail properties. Allara has been with Bridge Investment Group since March 2009, where he is involved in raising capital from high net worth individuals, family office and institutional partners in addition to responsibilities related to ownership, investment analysis, development, asset management, investor relations, and legal & tax issues. Mr. Allara is also responsible for real property development including permits and zoning, master planning, debt financing, insurance, construction management, home owners’ association management, marketing and residential sales. Mr. Allara’s previous experience includes a ten-year career with Trace Digital, a leading global supplier of software manufacturing equipment, where he rose from a Regional Sales Manager to President and CEO. Mr. Allara earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the St. Mary’s College in 1984, which included one year at Loyola University of Rome, Italy. He also earned his Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University in 1986 with a semester at the Tokyo University studying Business Law.

John Ockerbloom, Head of Real Estate Equity⁠—U.S., Barings

John Ockerbloom is Head of US Real Estate Equity at Barings, a $338BN global asset management firm with more than $10BN AUM in US real estate equity investments. In this capacity, John is responsible for all aspects of the business including all investment, capital raising, and portfolio management functions. He serves as Chairman of the US Equity Real Estate Investment Committee and also sits on the investment committee for Barings’ US Real Estate Debt business, which itself has assets under management in excess of $25BN. Prior to joining Barings in 2019, John had a 20-year career in real estate investment banking, most recently serving as global head of real estate, lodging and gaming investment banking at Jefferies LLC, where he founded the firm’s real estate business, having previously served in senior roles at Morgan Keegan, Wachovia, and Banc of America Securities. Prior to his banking career, John was a lawyer in private practice with the Boston firm of Sherburne, Powers & Needham (n/k/a Holland & Knight - Boston) focusing on LIHTC syndication. John holds Series 7, 63, and 24 designations from FINRA and is involved in numerous real estate organizations.
