The $78B Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois named Diana Ortiz Ochoa as a senior investment officer, a newly created position within the private equity team.

Ochoa will be reporting to Ghiané Jones, deputy chief investment officer, confirmed a spokesperson at the pension over email.

In her new role, Ochoa will lead the oversight and growth of the pension fund’s $12B private equity program. Her responsibilities will include evaluating and executing new investment opportunities, strengthening manager relationships, and guiding portfolio decisions aimed at ensuring long-term growth and stability for TRS members, noted a LinkedIn post by the Illinois TRS.

Ochoa’s background in sourcing, due diligence, and portfolio construction is expected to help the fund maintain its disciplined, strategic approach while continuing to deliver strong, measurable outcomes, it added.

Prior to joining the pension, she was self-employed as an alternative asset investment advisor for nine months. Before that, she worked as the director of private equity at the Boeing Co. for more than five years. She joined Boeing in 2011 as manager of private equity, was promoted to senior manager of real estate and real assets in 2017, and became director of private equity in 2019.

She also previously served as assistant vice-president at JPMorgan Chase and vice-president for the Bank of America.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ochoa serves as the treasurer for Justice for Migrant Women and as a member of the Loyola University’s Quinlan School of Business Finance Department Advisory Board.
