Australian Food Super, the A$3.4B retirement fund that began life as the Australian Meat Industry Superannuation Trust, has appointed Richard Dinham as chief investment officer following a five-month consulting engagement with the scheme.

He succeeds Murray Rutherford, who had held the dual role of CIO and chief executive before stepping down as CEO earlier this year. Rutherford was replaced in that position by Michael Sykes, the former head of AvSuper and a former deputy chief of MTAA Super.

Dinham previously worked at the super fund as a consultant before taking on the role of Australian Food Super’s CIO. He joins the fund with more than two decades of experience across retirement, wealth, and investment consulting.

Earlier in his career, Dinham spent nearly six years at Fidelity International as head of client solutions and retirement, working with investment teams to design products for wholesale and institutional clients. Hea also held senior roles at various firms, including with Macquarie Bank’s wealth management arm as head of research, as StatePlus’ CIO, as a senior consultant at Russell Investment Group, and head of distribution at Alexander Forbes Investments.

Dinham also served as the investment committee member for sisters of good Samaritan for more than a year and was a senior external investment consultant at Certe for under a year.
