AkademikerPension appoints new senior leaders to head equities, ESG strategies

Denmark-based AkademikerPension has named Dan Wejse as its new head of global equities, effective October 1.

In the new role, Wejse will oversee the internal active management of global activities, along with establishing a robust process for the fund’s external global equity mandates. His primary focus will be to deliver attractive long-term returns for the plan’s 174,500 members.

Wejse has previously worked as the head of research for fundamental equities at Nordea Asset Management for nearly six years.

AkademikerPension is known for its responsible investment stance in Denmark, especially its exclusion policies and active ownership on sustainability issues. The fund is growing its global equities team and the new hire reflects its ongoing efforts to strengthen in-house management, a trend rapidly growing among Nordic pension plans aiming to combine cost efficiency with closer oversight of environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies.

Additionally, AkademikerPension scooped Nordea Asset Management’s head of sustainability research, Rikke Berg Jacobsen as its new head of ESG, according to a LinkedIn post.

“I’m now truly honored and excited to step into the role of Head of ESG at AkademikerPension – an organization that invests responsibly with a long-term perspective and combines solid pension management with a strong commitment to the green transition,” said Jacobsen, in a LinkedIn post.

Jacobsen has worked at Nordea Asset Management for more than a decade and has held multiple positions including client relationship manager, project manager and head of sustainability research.
