Non-profit Truth Initiative’s executive vice-president and chief financial and investment officer, Anthony T. O’Toole, is retiring, effective September 30, after 25 years.
He joined the organization in May 2000 as one of its first employees, noted a press release. During his tenure, O’Toole led the organization’s financial strategy and was instrumental in ensuring its long-term sustainability, growth, and public health impact.
“Tony has been a steady and invaluable presence over the past 25 years,” said Kathy Crosby, Truth Initiative’s president and chief executive officer, in the release. “His leadership, mentorship, and deep commitment to our lifesaving mission have been foundational to our success. We owe so much of where we are today to his expertise and dedication.”
Gary Tang, who joined Truth Initiative in June, will succeed O’Toole as CFO and CIO. He joined the company from non-profit scientific journal Optica Publishing Group, where he served as CFO for roughly two years. Prior to that, Tang was CFO at National 4-H Council, a private non-profit organization that supports youth development, from 2020 to 2023. He was also SVP, CFO and chief risk officer at the American College of Financial Services from 2016 to 2020 and EVP and CFO at GreenTech Automotive from 2008 to 2015. He also served six years as manager of capital markets at Fannie Mae.
“Gary is a highly accomplished, entrepreneurial, and thoughtful financial leader who brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to public service,” said Crosby in the release. “His leadership will be instrumental as we build on a strong foundation and scale our work to prevent youth and young adult nicotine addiction and provide access to field-leading cessation services to all.”
