The $500M fund is seeking to replace Leah Nguyen, who left the role earlier this year.
The CDPQ is expected to receive roughly $500M from the transaction and may reinvest it to ‘accelerate the growth of local companies’ in Canada to prepare for possible US tariffs.
As of Sept. 30, 2024, the fund’s asset mix included 21.50% U.S. equity allocations and 25.63% non-U.S. equity allocations.
CAAT’s pension plan remains 124% funded, with C$6.1B in funding reserves.
Six proposals were received and are currently being evaluated, with preliminary interviews scheduled for mid-April.
In his new role, Smith will oversee the $10.7B endowment fund’s private equity and venture investments.

Banik’s team has opted to be a bit more cash heavy going into the endowment fund’s fiscal year end.
