CPP appoints private equity head, following the departure of Suyi Kim

The $472.8bn Canada Pension Fund has named Caitlin Gubbels as the senior managing director and global head of private equity.

Gubbels will be taking over the role of Suyi Kim, who has moved on to take new global investment leadership opportunities outside of the organization after 17 years.

Kim will remain will the organization until November to “ensure smooth transition”.

Gubbels will be starting her new role from October 15.

In this role, she will lead the pension plan’s private equity program globally, including the teams dedicated to investments in Direct Private Equity, Private Equity Asia, and Private Equity Funds and Secondaries.

Gubbels joined the Canadian pension plan in 2010, as a senior principal, currently serves as managing director - head of funds, where she leads the private equity funds business.

Prior to joining CPP, she worked as an investment banker at CIBC World Markets for over three years.

"Caitlin's proven ability to build relationships and generate returns across private equity opportunities makes her ideally suited to take on this expanded leadership role and contribute meaningfully to the senior management team," said John Graham, president and chief executive of the pension plan.
