The $2.5B Crewe Advisors has appointed Seth Merrill as chief investment officer and partner and Dustin Thackeray as head of portfolio management.
Merrill joins the multi-family office from Ensign Peak Advisors, the investment manager for the assets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His tenure at Ensign spanned eight years, during which he served as head of systematic equities and later as co-director of portfolio strategy.
A November 2024 report by the Salt Lake Tribune noted the estimated value of the Mormon Church’s investment portfolio, which includes stocks, bonds and mutual funds, was $56.8B.
Prior to his role at Ensign, Merrill was the CIO of his own investment management firm, Cederian Investments LLP, and spent seven years at Brandes Investment Partners as an equity research analyst and investment committee member. Earlier in his career he worked in the treasury and finance department of Ford Motor Co.
Thackeray, who is a founding partner of Crewe, will specialize in the execution and implementation of investment strategies, working closely with advisors to translate firm-level views into personalized portfolios, noted a press release. He will supervise day-to-day portfolio operations, manage tax-aware implementation, and oversee customized client investment strategies.
“This is about smart alignment and bringing top-tier talent to complement what we’re already doing well,” said Thackeray, in the release. “We’ll focus on growing and shifting our capabilities to keep up with the industry pace. I’m energized to work alongside Seth to strengthen our platform and support our high-net-worth clients’ complex needs long-term.”
