Despite the crisis reducing par loans to 60 cents on the dollar and losing leverage lines, Mr. Barrett partnered with two managers who had open leverage lines at Libor plus 20bps. By relevering in the downturn at a higher leverage ratio, he not only recovered the losses but also created two new investment vehicles with major credit firms, showcasing his strategic acumen and leadership in crisis management.
