The $18.7B (SEK$165B) Kåpan Tjänstepension named Gunnar Balsvik as interim chief executive officer, following the resignation of CEO Marie Giertz.
Giertz announced her departure last month, citing personal reasons for her decision to step down.
Previously, Balsvik served as the former CEO of Kåpan from 2003 to January 2025. The fund confirmed that a search for a permanent CEO has begun.
“As a former CEO, Gunnar Balsvik is very familiar with the assignment and, with his many years of experience from the business, will contribute to stability, continuity, and secure leadership,” said Ann Follin, chair of Kåpan’s Board, in a news release.
In a recent exclusive interview with Markets Group, Giertz spoke about restructuring the pension plan’s portfolio with an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) lens, noting the internalization allows for deeper ESG integration and tighter control over strategy implementation.
“It’s about strengthening capabilities across all asset classes,” said Giertz. “That’s how we stay resilient in a more volatile world.”
