Ohio STRS appoints a new executive director

By Muskan Arora

Aaron F. Hood has been appointed as interim executive director by the State Teachers’ Retirement System of Ohio, effective today. The search was led by the executive firm Korn Ferry.

Currently, Hood is serving as a finance senior fellow in the department of social sciences at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

He has previously served as CFO at Summit Carbon Solutions, following his time as a founding partner at Perella Weinberg Partners, where he worked in two roles as CFO/COO and head of asset management.

“Mr. Hood will provide a seamless transition as the Board searches for STRS Ohio’s next permanent leader,” said Rudy Fichtenbaum, STRS Board Chair said in a statement.

Hood earned a B.S. in theoretical economics and political science from U.S. Military Academy, where he served for five years and rose to the rank of captain in the Army Corps of Engineers. He went on to earn his MBA from Harvard University.

Owing to governance issues in recent times, STRS Ohio has faced major high-profile turnover.

In September, CIO Matt Worley and acting executive director Lynn Hoover announced their resignations. Worley’s resignation is effective from March 31, 2025.

However, Hoover’s resignation is effective from December 1 and she has been acting in place of Bill Neville, who had taken an indefinite leave from the firm since November 2023, over reports of harassment against STRS staff and was ultimately replaced in September.
