The Local Pensions Partnership Investments (LPPI) is promoting Jonathan Ord to head of infrastructure, in a bid to expand its infrastructure investment team and strengthen its capabilities.

LPPI is the Alternative Investment Fund Manager of GLIL Infrastructure LLP, a joint venture between a number of UK local government pension funds.

Ord’s promotion coincides with his role as GLIL’s head of investment since January last year, according to a press release. He joined the LPPI in 2013 from the London Pensions Fund Authority. During his tenure at the LPPI, he’s led the formation of its pooling vehicles in infrastructure and private equity. In his new role, Ord is responsible for leading the infrastructure team, ensuring it continues to deliver strong outcomes across its portfolio.

The LPPI also promoted Daniel Hobson to head of origination and execution, where he will lead efforts to deliver new investment opportunities.

Hobson was previously an investment director at the LPPI, noted the release. Prior to joining the investment manager, he held several asset management roles, including spending nearly two decades at Greater Manchester Pension Fund, three of which were spent serving as its head of real assets.

As part of his new role, Hobson will oversee origination activity and strengthen engagement with external partners to build a robust investment pipeline.

The pension pool has also appointed James Harraway as its new head of value creation. He joined the company from mid-market infrastructure fund Infracapital, where he worked as a managing director. Harraway brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in infrastructure investment and mergers and acquisitions.

“These appointments mark an exciting new chapter for our direct infrastructure team,” said LPPI’s chief investment officer Richard Tomlinson, in a press release. “The team’s expertise and track record have been central to the success of our direct infrastructure portfolio, and this refined focus on origination and value creation will ensure we continue to deliver strong, sustainable returns for UK pension fund investors. We’re excited to welcome James and congratulate both Jonathan and Dan on their new roles.”

According to the press release, the appointments come as GLIL Infrastructure, the £4.1B infrastructure investment fund created “by pension funds for pension funds,” celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Ord and Hobson have been founding members of GLIL’s investment team since 2016.

To date, GLIL has deployed more than £3.2B into a portfolio of 14 assets, spanning renewable energy, utilities, ports, logistics, trains, hospitals and schools.

The new leadership team reflects LPPI’s ongoing focus on origination and value creation across its infrastructure portfolio, which enable it to deploy long-term UK pension fund capital into projects that deliver positive societal outcomes, while generating stable, inflation-linked returns for investors.
