The Employees Retirement System of Texas has appointed Simon Mok director of private real estate.

Mok succeeds Amy Cureton, who was recently promoted by the pension fund to managing director of real assets in September.

He joined Texas ERS in 2019, serving as a portfolio manager on its private real estate team for nearly seven years.

“Simon has been a tremendous resource during his time at ERS and brings tremendous experience, knowledge and insights to this leadership role within the Private Real Estate Team,” said the pension fund’s chief investment officer, David Veal, in a press release. “ERS is highly focused on advancing capable and experienced personnel within the organization, and I know Simon will make significant contributions to the Private Real Estate Team and the Trust overall in this role.”

Prior to joining Texas ERS, he worked at Franklin Templeton as part of its real estate investment team, and at AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp. as part of its global real estate funds product development and portfolio management team.

In his new role, Mok oversees roughly 10% of the ERS Trust’s assets and leads the team in deploying capital on a global basis, noted the release.
