Bain Capital sells WinTriX’s China unit in $4B landmark deal

Bain Capital has announced a landmark agreement to sell the China operations of its data center portfolio company, WinTriX DC Group, to a consortium led by Shenzhen Dongyangguang Industry Co. (HEC) alongside institutional investors, including insurance firms and local government funds. The all-equity deal is valued at US$4 billion, making it the largest merger and acquisition transaction in China’s data center industry to date.

Since its founding in 2018, Chindata has become a leading hyperscale data center operator in China, supporting the country’s digital transformation with scalable infrastructure. Bain Capital executives highlighted the firm’s role in building Chindata into a market leader, citing strong growth, advanced capabilities, and long-term value creation.

Bain Capital said the transaction underscores both continued demand for hyperscale digital infrastructure and its own strategy of building category-defining platforms. HEC is expected to leverage its industrial expertise to support Chindata’s next phase of growth in China’s fast-evolving digital economy.
