Cornell University’s office of Investments has appointed Jeff Smith as senior investment officer.
In his new role, Smith will oversee the $10.7B endowment fund’s private equity and venture capital investments.
He joins Cornell after serving as managing director of the Smithsonian Institute’s office of investments for more than 14 years. During his tenure at the $2B endowment, Smith was one of four internal investment committee members responsible for asset allocation recommendations and risk management with respect to venture capital, private equity and real assets.
Prior to joining the Smithsonian Institute, Smith was a managing director at Verdis Investment Management, where he helped establish a 10th generation single family office.
Smith earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is also a designated Chartered Financial Analyst with the CFA Institute.
