The $76.6bn
NZ Super has named Michael Mitchell as chief risk officer, following the
retirement of Mark Fennell earlier this year.
Before
taking over the role, Mitchell was serving as an acting chief risk officer
since the beginning of 2024.
Jo
Townsend, Guardians CEO cited Mitchell’s knowledge of the system’s risk
assessment framework and risk management procedures, in a recent press release.
Mitchell
joined NZ Super in 2005, with a focus to establish its responsible investment
process.
Since then, he has switched focus to the fund's risk
requirements and has been instrumental in establishing its risk record
framework, developing the liquidity trading process and the reference portfolio
completion.
He has
previously worked at Morgan Stanley, Westpac Investment Management and
ABN Amro. He began his career with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
NZ Super has had key staff turnover. Recent appointments include Townsend, who joined the fund in April, and recently, Alex Bacchus, as interim CIO.
